Guidelines and Information about Activity Tracking:
  • Physical activity should not be logged until it has actually been completed for the day.
  • Physical activity can be tracked on any day during the event, even on days that have already passed. However, it is important that activity tracking is done in a timely manner so that participants maintain their eligibility for weekly prize drawings (happening every Tuesday during the event window). ALL activity must be logged before 11:59 PM CST on October 2nd in order for participants to be eligible and included in the final prize drawings.
  • Activity can be logged one time a day (either in minutes of activity or total steps taken). Once logged, that activity for the day cannot be edited.
  • Physical activity, in minutes, requires a minimum of 30 minutes a day in order for a participant to receive full participation credit for the day. Physical activity, in minutes, is limited to a maximum of 180 minutes. Even if you complete more than 180 minutes of physical activity for a day, you can only record a maximum of 180 minutes.
  • Physical activity, in steps, is limited to a maximum of 25,000 steps. Even if you complete more than 25,000 steps in a day, you can only record a maximum of 25,000.
  • Physical activity, in steps, requires a minimum of 8,000 steps a day in order for a participant to receive full participation credit for the day.
  • If you choose to record your physical activity in steps, you must have a device that can track your steps (a FitBit, pedometer, cell phone app, etc.).

Team Challenge Option

Why compete for ONE prize when you can compete for TWO!? Challenge participants can now create TEAMS and have your participation activity count towards your team overall participation ranking AND towards your individual personal ranking for the Grand Prize! The top 10 ranking teams at the end of the Challenge will be entered into a drawing for the team grand prize!

  • If you join a team, you will have access to a new area called 'My Team's Progress' where you can see summary information on how well you are doing as a collective team (no individual personal activity information will be shared other than your first and last name for team roster). There will also be an area for Team Leaderboards.
  • Teams must consist of a minimum of 3 members by 11:00 PM CST on September 1st in order to be a viable team for the competition. Teams with less than 3 members will be removed. There is no maximum on the number of people that can join a team.
  • Each participant may only be on 1 team per Challenge year. Participants may create more than 1 team but cannot be on both or all teams at the same time. If the creator is not on the team roster, they will not be considered a member of that team.
  • You do not need to do any additional activity logging to be part of a team. The steps/minutes that you record will automatically be calculated as part of your participation score with the team.
  • Choosing to be part of a team is optional. If you select to be on a team, your days of participation will be averaged together with other members of the team to produce an overall team participation score. Calculation of the participation score will add all days for all participants where minimum requirements were met for full credit (30+ minutes per day / 8000+ steps per day) and create an average. Participants that are part of the team that do not successfully achieve full credit for a day will have a 0 added into the average (ie, not participating can negatively affect a team's participation score).
  • The top 10 ranked teams will be entered into a drawing. The team drawn will receive the $1000 monetary prize! If there is a tie in the top 10 participation scores, all of the teams with the top 10 participation scores will be entered into the drawing.
  • The winning team is consisted of only those on the actual team roster and those on the team are solely responsible for deciding how to distribute the monetary prize amongst team members on the roster.
  • To create a team, visit the 30 For 30 Registration Page and click the "Create A Team Name" button located below the "Click Here to Register" button.
  • Teams can be Private and password protected, or Public and available for any registered participant to join.
  • Once a team is created, the team name will appear on the drop down list under the "Select a 30-For-30 Team" section of the registration page.

School Challenge Option

Looking for a way to give back!? Here's your chance to challenge yourself AND help one of our schools earn a $1000 donation to enhance their health/wellness programs!

  • Anyone competing in the 30 for 30 Fitness Challenge can support one of the local schools within the Odessa College service area.
  • All K-12 schools within the Odessa College service area have been populated to select from on the 30 for 30 Registration Page. If you do not see your school, please email SportsCenter@odessa.edu.
  • Choosing to support a school is optional. If you select to support a school, your days of participation will be averaged together with other members that selected that school to produce an overall school participation score. Calculation of the school participation score will add all days for all participants where minimum requirements were met for full credit (30+ minutes per day / 8000+ steps per day) and create an average. Participants that are part of the school team that do not successfully achieve full credit for a day will have a 0 added into the average (ie, not participating can negatively affect a school's participation score).
  • You do not have to do anything additional when logging your activity! The steps/minutes that you record will automatically be calculated as part of your selected school participation score. Simply select a school during your registration and you're done!
  • Already registered but need to add a school before the Challenge begins? Email SportsCenter@odessa.edu.
  • The top 10 ranked schools will be entered into a drawing. The school drawn will receive the $1000 check to enhance the health/wellness programs and equipment at that school. If there is a tie in the top 10 participation scores, all of the schools with the top 10 participation scores will be entered into the drawing.

  • The Daily Steps activity option allows participants who get a minimum of 8,000 steps in a single day to count that as their 30 minute exercise for the day!
  • When you log in to record your activity, choose the Daily Steps activity option and then enter your steps for the day.
  • You must use an activity tracker or steps counter to track your steps. Estimated steps will not be accepted.

Personal Accountability and Participation Honesty

Participants in the 30 for 30 Fitness Challenge will be held to the following:

  • Participants acknowledge that they may only have one participant account per annual 30 For 30 Fitness Challenge.
  • Participants agree that they will be honest and only record physical activity (time/steps) that they ACTUALLY complete on any given day.
  • Participants acknowledge that they are personally accountable and responsible for digitally recording their own physical activity through the 30 for 30 app using their assigned Participant ID and Participant PIN number.

Delays or Interruptions in Activity Tracking
  • The 30 for 30 Fitness Challenge mobile app is set to track and record activity in Central Standard Time (CST). All deadlines for activity tracking are expected to be completed according to the CST time zone. Participants are provided a CST time stamp at the top of their welcome page each time they log in.
  • There will be times where the app will experience periods of heavy traffic (especially around dates/times of activity deadline submissions for weekly eligibility and final eligibility). These periods of heavy traffic can cause latency within the app and possible delays / interruptions in a participant's ability to log their activity data.
  • Participants should plan their activity logging accordingly. It is recommend that participants not wait until the very last moment to log their daily activity if possible. Participants will be less likely to experience activity logging issues if they log frequently and consistently.

When will the Challenge finale and finalists drawings be held?

The Odessa College 30 for 30 Fitness Challenge® Finalists Drawing will be held virtually online on Tuesday, October 3rd and the Grand Finale Drawing will be held in person on the Odessa College campus, on Thursday, October 5th. Check back soon for more details!
