Cruickshanks Strikes out 13 as Wranglers Defeat Gordon State 3-1

Gordon State College
The Wrangler Softball team opened the 2023 NJCAA D1 Softball World with at 3-1 victory over Gordon State on Tuesday afternoon.
Rayna Cruickshanks threw a complete game four hitter for the Wranglers. She struck out 13 Gordon State hitters while not issuing a single walk.
Odessa broke the scoring open in the bottom of the third when Ari Ybarra single to right field, then stole second base and scored on an errant throw by the Gordon State catcher. Two batters later, Clarisa Zapata scored on an RBI single by Kawehi Ili to make it 2-0 in favor of the Wranglers.
The Wranglers added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homerun to left field by Michaella Baker to extend the lead to 3-0.
Gordan State cut into the Wrangler lead in the fifth with an RBI double from Emmalyn Gable but that was the only run they would score as Cruickshanks would strike out the side to secure the 3-1 victory.
Odessa advances to the second round where they will play the winner of Butler (KS) and College of Southern Idaho at 2pm on Wednesday.
