Softball Defeats San Jac 4-1

YUMA, AZ - The Wrangler Softball Team defeated San Jacinto College 4-1 in the first round of the 2022 NJCAA D1 Softball National Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore pitcher Aydenne Brown went the distance in the circle allowing one run on three hits while striking out ten San Jac hitters.

Odessa got on the board first scoring three runs in the bottom of the third Kaylean Ayala scored on a fielding error by the San Jac pitcher for the first run of the game. Odessa picked up two more runs when Kawehi Ili looped a fly ball into center field that was bobbled and dropped by the San Jac center fielder.

San Jac would pick up their only run of the game on a solo home run in the top half of the fourth. The Wranglers answered back when Brooke Nauman scored on a throwing error by the San Jac catcher to make the score 4-1.

San Jac threatened again in the top of the sixth, but Brown got a strikeout to end the inning stranding two runners in scoring position. Brown would go on to retire San Jac in order in the top of the seventh to secure the Wrangler victory.

With the win, Odessa advances to the winner's bracket to face #13 Lake Land (IL) who upset #4 Seminole St. (OK) 8-7. Wednesday's game between Odessa and Lake Land will be at 4pm CST and will be live-streamed by the NJCAA Network at: https://www.njcaa.org/network/landing/index

NOTES: Odessa moves to 53-5 overall on the season. The 53 wins this season breaks the school record for most wins in a single season.
