Wrangler Place Third at Region 5 Championship, Ilanda & El Youssfi Claim Individual Titles
The Wrangler Cross Country teams place third at the Region 5 Championships this past weekend in Hobbs, NM.
Held at Harry McAdams Park, Odessa would sweep the individual titles as Elizabeth Ilanda and Mohammed El Youssfi won both the women's and men's races.
In the women's race, the Wranglers placed third overall as a team scoring 82 points. Ilanda won the women's 5k race with a time of 17:23.70 nearly one minute ahead of the second place finisher from NMJC. Kaydeen Johnson had her strongest race of the season finishing fourth overall with a time of 18:32.70.
The men's race would nearly mirror the results of the first race as El Youssfi claimed the 8k race win with a time of 23:07.20. Ethan Gioko finished third overall with a time of 23:41.10. As a team, Odessa would go on to finish third scoring 82 team points.
Both teams, will now prepare for the 2024 NJCAA Cross Country championships in Richmond, VA
