Former Head Coach Rick Zimmerman Retirement Ceremony Scheduled for Saturday February 18th

NJCAA Hall of Fame Baseball Coach Rick Zimmerman will have his jersey retired at the Wrangler Ballpark on Saturday February 18th, 2023.

The retirement ceremony will take place at 11:30am prior to the Odessa College vs. Richland College double header.

Saturday's double header will start at 12:00pm and will be an OC All In Event for Odessa College Employees.

This weekend's games will be the first home games of the season for the Wranglers. Odessa will host Seward County Community College (KS) on Friday and Richland College on Saturday. First pitch for both double headers will be at noon at the Wrangler Ballpark.

 

Rick Zimmerman Information:

Rick Zimmerman was the head coach of the Odessa College Baseball team from 1990-2004. He won 521 games in 14 years as the head coach at OC. 

Under Zimmerman's leadership, the Wranglers won over 40 games in six of those seasons. The 1995 team won 49 games on their way to a third-place finish at the NJCAA JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

During his tenure, Odessa College qualified for twelve NJCAA Region 5 tournaments, they won two Region 5 championships, and the Western Junior College Athletic Conference five times.

In his twenty-seven-year career coaching, Zimmerman compiled a 1098-483 overall record. He was an NJCAA Region Coach of the Year fifteen times and District Coach of the Year three times. He took three teams to the NJCAA JUCO World Series finishing 7th, 5th and 3rd. Eighty-one of his former players were drafted by Major League Baseball and eight of them played in the big leagues.

Zimmerman served as Vice-President of the NJCAA Coaches Association and was the NJCAA Representative for the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee.

Zimmerman was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2000.
