Gray Named Head Volleyball Coach at University of Louisiana Lafayette

Kristi Gray will be introduced today as the new head volleyball coach at the University of Louisiana, becoming the 13th head coach for the Ragin' Cajuns program.

Gray leaves Odessa with an impressive 125-37 record.  In her five years as head coach of the Wranglers, she took the team to two NJCAA D1 Volleyball National Tournaments finishing ninth in 2019 and sixth in 2021. Three times she was named Western Junior College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and was twice named NJCAA Southwest District Coach of the Year.

"Coach Gray is as completely dedicated to her profession, her team and her college as any coach I have personally worked with" said Athletic Director Wayne Baker. "Her passion for student-athletes and competition is without a doubt her strength and will serve her well for many years to come."

Gray led Odessa to three WJCAC Conference Championships, three Wranglers were named NJCAA All-American, she coached three WJCAC Players of the Year, and had an impressive 20 athletes named to the WJCAC All-Conference Volleyball Team. 

Academically under Gray, 25 student athletes were named NJCAA Academic All-Americans.  Additionally, 100 % of those players who stayed in the program for two years graduated with a degree from Odessa College.

"Wrangler volleyball is on the map nationally within the NJCAA thanks to the efforts and passion Coach Gray always brought to work. I appreciate the nine-years that Kristi gave to Odessa College, and we wish her well in the future."

A nationwide search for the next Wrangler Volleyball head coach will commence immediately.
