Inside Athletics - OC Blues Head Coach Gabriela "Belle" Gutierrez

Over the past four years, the success of the OC Blues Dance Team can be directly attributed to Head Coach Belle Gutierrez.  The Blues are four time National Dance Alliance Hip Hop National Champions.

In addition to their success at the competition level, the Blues do a great job of giving back to the community.  They are involved with activities on the Odessa College campus, help with the YMCA youth football league, and hold camps and clinics for local youth groups and team from throughout the Permian Basin.

"Belle has elevated the Odessa College dance team to national prominence during her time as the coach of the OC Blues" said AD Wayne Baker.  "I appreciate the effort and energy that Belle puts into the program and the investment she makes with the students within the program."

Belle is an Odessa native and holds a degree from Odessa College.

Q: What are you doing during COVID-19 to stay in touch with your student-athletes?
We have a group chat app that we use to talk several times a week! I also FaceTime with the team as frequently as my children at home will let me.

Q: How has COVID-19 changed your approach to coaching/recruiting for next year?
Yes, this year we are utilizing a recruitment/ video audition hybrid. So far it has been successful. This could be something we use in the future! It has allowed more out of town students to participate in our tryout process.

Q: If you could have dinner with 3 other people, dead or alive, who would they be? Why?
My grandmother- she has since passed but I would love anytime spent with her again. She is the reason I love dance today.
