Odessa College Golf Represented in Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase

The Odessa College Golf program continues to gain national recognition.  Odessa College will be participating in the 2020 Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase February 10th at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, California.

"This is an historic day for Odessa College and the Wrangler Golf Team" said head golf coach Paul Chavez"

Freshman golfer Jose Dibildox will pair with former OC golfer and PGA Tour professional Abraham Ancer for a one day best-ball round with the top three teams winning a $50,000 donation to the school's golf program.  The low collegiate golfer will earn an exemption into the 2020 Genesis Invitational.

"To have Abraham invite one of our current student athletes to participate with him in this event is a credit to Odessa College and to the person that Abraham is." said Athletic Director Wayne Baker

This marks the first time ever for an NJCAA golf program to participate in this prestigious event.  Dibildox will represent Odessa College and 2020 will be the sixth year of the Collegiate Showcase.

"This event allows Odessa College to gain national exposure throughout the golf world" said Baker.  "Coach Chavez and I are very appreciate of the opportunity provided to us by the Genesis Open and by Abraham Ancer. "

Dibildox has had an impressive start to his Wrangler Golf career.  This fall he had three top ten finishes and was named the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the week of September 29th.  Jose currently ranks as the #12 NJCAA golfer according to GolfStat.

Abraham Ancer played at Odessa College in 2009-10. He earned NJCAA All-American honors along with being named the NJCAA D1 Player of the Year (Jack Nicklaus Award) and the NJCAA D1 Freshman of the Year (Phil Mickelson Award).

Ancer is a member of the PGA Tour and recently participated in the 2020 Presidents Cup.  He is currently ranked 30th in the World and inside the top 20 in the FedEx Cup Standings.
