Cross Country Community Involvement

The cross country team had a busy weekend!  On Friday night, they traveled to Abilene, TX for a meet hosted by Hardin Simmons University.  Unfortunately, due to bad weather, the men's race was canceled.  On the bright side, OC's Karen Torres took 10th place overall in the women's 5K event with the rest of the team following close behind in 11th, 24th and 30th place.

The team was up bright and early on Saturday morning to volunteer at the Permian Basin's Cups for a Cure event.  Coach Walsh said, "We were so happy to be a part of such a great event and loved seeing so many community members staying active, especially for such a good cause."  The cross country team helped with the children's 1K race and then participated in the 5K and 10K events. The team finished up the day by volunteering at the Permian Basin fair.  They turned on their artistic skills by providing free face painting to the patrons of the fair.  They had fun and enjoyed interacting with the community of Odessa. (pics above)

The team is set to travel to Western Texas College this Saturday, September 24th, for their fourth meet of the season.
