Volleyball claims Region 5 West Tournament Championship

This past weekend the Wrangler Volleyball Team made history by winning the Region 5 West Conference Tournament, punching their ticket to the NJCAA D1 National Volleyball Tournament for the first time is program history. 

"We had a goal set coming into this weekend, just like every other match this year" said Coach Kristi Gray. "We set the bar high, knowing that both teams were very competitive and that both matches weren't going to be easy."

OC defeated New Mexico Junior College in the semi-finals in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, & 25-21) advancing to the finals against New Mexico Military.  The Wranglers would go on to defeat NMMI in straight sets (25-20, 25-21, & 25-20) to claim their First Region 5 West Conference Tournament Championship. 

"I couldn't be more excited for this group! They have accomplished many goals set throughout the year and to see them win this one was special" said Gray.

The NJCAA D1 Volleyball National Tournament begins on November 21st in Hutchinson, KS. Seeding for the tournament will be released on Tuesday along with other tournament information including game times and live-stream links. 

In other notes, three Wranglers, sophomore Carol Santana and freshmen Luisa Silva Dos Santos and Lyric Love were named to the WJCAC 2019 All-Conference Volleyball Team.  Coach Kristi Gray was named Co-Coach of the Year.
