The Odessa College volleyball team made quick work of its match Wednesday against Western Texas College, rolling to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-8 victory in WJCAC action at the OC Sports Center.

Odessa College (19-7 overall, 5-1 WJCAC) has won its last four conference matches and nine of its last 11 overall. The Lady Wranglers finished with a .465 attack percentage with 45 kills and just five errors in 86 attempts.

"This is the first time that we've played this consistent in a very long time," Odessa College coach Kristi Gray said. "It was definitely total solid team play. Our ball control, our serve receive, our defense was very good to where we were able to transition and set anybody that we wanted."

Carly Evetts had 11 kills and 2.5 blocks, while Mariana Ferreira also had 11 kills and Haley Thomas had 10 kills to lead the Lady Wranglers.

"We've been practicing really good, really going hard into the second half of conference," Evetts said. "This was good for us to keep our momentum going and to show our hard work paid off.

"(Gray) was just telling us to use our middles, which is Haley and I. They just couldn't get the block there. We worked against what they were doing so we could use our middles."

Summer Ah Choy had 20 assists, 11 digs and three aces to lead Odessa College. Amanda Oliveira added 16 assists and five digs, while Faith Sanchez finished with 10 digs.

"I just set my biggest hitters," Ah Choy said. "I set whoever's on fire. Catharina (Bambirra) tells me where to set. She tells me to go front or back. I try to look toward the net and see where the middle's going so I can give them a one-on-one.

"We were really consistent. Our passes were good so we could get some good sets. Our hitters were really consistent. In the first set, we had no errors. I think the first set really energized us."

Western Texas College (6-19, 1-5) was led by Kensi Christian with four kills and 11 digs, while Karolina Noszczyk had two kills. Miriam Cardoner Soler had seven assists and six digs.

The first set had four ties and three lead changes in the first nine points before Thomas knocked down back-to-back kills to start a 7-2 run that put Odessa College in front to stay. The Lady Wranglers led 12-8 when Evetts recorded three consecutive kills to ignite a 6-1 run that pushed the lead to 18-9.

The second set had seven ties and five lead changes and was tied at 10-10 before the Lady Wranglers pulled away. Alexis Parrish, who had four kills, and Ferreira combined on a block to give Odessa College the lead for good. With the Lady Wranglers leading 15-13, a kill by Rashai Kailiwai started an 8-0 run that put Odessa College firmly in control.

The Lady Wranglers kept the momentum in the third set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead that grew to 12-4. Western Texas stayed within eight points before Odessa College closed out the match with a 10-0 run.
