Wrangler Spotlight - Raevyn Kaupu

Wrangler Spotlight - Raevyn Kaupu

Wrangler Spotlight

Raevyn Kaupu, a second year student-athlete at Odessa College, has played a huge part in this year's volleyballs team success.  Raevyn is the starting setter for the 13-3 Wranglers and has made a drastic impact every time she steps on the court, especially on the defensive end.

Raevyn was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii with her brother and sister.  She is on track to graduate this spring and plans to attend a 4 year university where she can continue her collegiate volleyball career.  Raevyn plans to study sports medicine and would like to become an athletic trainer or a volleyball coach in the future.
Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?

Raevyn: "Growing up I was always a huge basketball fan, so Michael Jordan would be my favorite athlete.  The way that Michael carried himself on the court, and the way he represented his family and team, really stuck with me throughout my career.  Michael is a fierce competitor and he never took a play off, and that's what I strive to do every time I step out on the court."

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Raevyn: "I would love to travel to New Zealand!  I have met a lot of people in Hawaii that are from New Zealand and their culture seems very interesting."

Q: List three things on your bucket list?

Raevyn: "Three things on my bucket list would be to skydive, to travel the world, and to buy a mansion for my mom."

Q: Describe how you feel about being an Odessa College Wrangler?

Raevyn: "Moving to Odessa from Hawaii was a huge change and a bit of a culture shock my first year.  I was out of my element, but ever since I stepped on campus I have felt extremely loved and welcomed.  Everyone seems to care about me, especially my coaches, teammates, and professors.  It is sad to think that my time as a Wrangler will soon come to an end, and my one wish would be for Odessa College to turn into a four year school so I would be able to stay for two more years."

After speaking with Head Coach, Kristi Gray, she stated that, "Raevyn is a fantastic leader on and off the court.  She motivates the entire team every day at practice and she will truly be missed next year.  The one thing we will miss most about her is her defense.  Raevyn is a defensive maniac and always seems to find the ball to make plays to help our team win."
