Lady Wranglers Fall Short To NMJC

Alexes Bryant scored with six seconds left Monday to lift No. 3 New Mexico Junior College to a 71-69 victory over Odessa College in WJCAC women's basketball action.

Bryant led all scorers with 32 points, while Ni'Asia McIntosh added 19 for NMJC (28-1 overall, 12-1 WJCAC). The Thunderbirds, who suffered their only loss of the season at Odessa College last month, scored the last eight points of the game, rallying from a 15-point deficit.

Amanda Sonderqvist scored 16 points to lead Odessa College (19-9, 7-6). Tanaka Gapare had 14 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out with 34 seconds left. Shannon Dozier also scored 14 points, while Leticia Soares had 11 points and Chinna Fair had 10.

Odessa College led 40-25 late in the first half and 42-31 at the break. The Lady Wranglers led 62-50 entering the fourth quarter, but were outscored 21-7 in the period. The Thunderbirds scored the game's last eight points, holding Odessa College scoreless for the final 3:49.
