The Odessa College Rodeo Team competed at the Vernon College Rodeo September 29 through October 1.  The team brought home a few championships from the Vernon College Rodeo.  Freshman Boyd Sawyer, of Thedford, Nebraska, won the Men's All-Around Championship.  Sawyer placed in the steer wrestling and in the saddle bronc riding on his way to be the top point earner in multiple events at the Vernon College Rodeo. 

Fellow Freshman BoDell Jessen, of Altonah, Utah, claimed the bull riding championship at the Vernon College Rodeo.  Jessen placed third in the first round of the bull riding.  In the short round he was the only rider to cover his bull. 

Sophomore Austin Williams, of Marsing, Idaho, earned the reserve championship in the bareback riding.  Williams won the first round with a rodeo high score of 78 points.  Williams scored 66 points on his second horse to finish second in the bareback riding average. Danten Metzger and Wyatt Johnson also placed in the bareback riding for the Wranglers.

Saddle Bronc Riders Boyd Sawyer and Cameron Messier finished fifth and sixth place respectively in the saddle bronc riding.  Boyd Also placed fifth place in the steer wrestling.

Afton McCourt was the lone Odessa Wrangler on the women's team to place this weekend at the Vernon College rodeo.  McCourt finished 10^th out of 153 contestants in the breakaway roping.

The Odessa College Men's Team placed fifth at the rodeo out of the seventeen teams competing.

"We are a young team this year, we have over 30 freshmen on the team," said Coach Aragon.  "Boyd and Bodell have done well so far this year.  Both of them can be contenders for the all-around. We have a talented group this year, we are excited to go to Clarendon in two weeks."

The Odessa College Wranglers head to Clarendon October 13-15.​
