Brenon Rhodes named OC Student Athlete of the Year

The 2015-16 Odessa College student-athlete of the Year is baseball player Brenon Rhodes.   A sophomore infielder from Snyder, Texas, Brenon has been a student at Odessa College for the past two years.  During the 2014-15 baseball season, Brenon was injured and received a medical hardship from the NJCAA so he could return to OC and play in the 2016 baseball season.   Brenon had surgery on his back in the spring of 2015 and returned to be the starting second baseman for the Wranglers this year.   During the 2016 baseball season, Brenon is hitting .365, with 5 homeruns, 38 runs batted in.

During both years at OC, Brenon was a student worker for home events at the Sports Center, an energetic supporter of OC athletics, and the perfect teammate on and off the field for his team.  As a student worker, going to class or practice or supporting other teams, Brenon was always early, and always happy.   Even this season, Brenon is playing with a torn ligament in his wrist, which will require surgery after the season.

Brenon will receive his second associates degree from Odessa College in May, with a two year gpa of 3.60, and is looking at universities to continue playing the game he loves next year.   Coach Kurtis Lay nicknamed Brenon "Whoraah" for the way he battles every day, his upbeat attitude and his complete support of his teammates.  Coach Lay indicates that Brenon is the toughest athlete he has ever coached.
