Three Wranglers Selected to NJCAA D1 All-American Teams

The Odessa Baseball and Softball seasons may be over but the Wranglers are still making headlines.  Earlier this week the NJCAA released its 2019 All-American Baseball and Softball Teams and three OC Wranglers were selected.

Shortstop Becca Duran was selected to the 2019 Division 1 Softball All-American Third-Team, Outfielder Kyler Castillo was selected to the 2019 Division 1 Baseball All-American First Team, and Infielder Ivan Melendez was selected to the Third Team.

Duran put up some impressive numbers during her freshman season for the Wrangler Softball team.  The Austin, TX native hit .446 with 20 homeruns, seven triples, 12 doubles, 65 RBI's, and 11 stolen bases. Her 20 homeruns puts her 4th in program history for homers in a season.  This year she was named NJCAA D1 Player of the Week, WJCAC Hitter of the Week, and was named to the WJCAC Softball All-Conference 1st Team.

The Wrangler Baseball team made program history by landing two players on the NJCAA D1 All-American Team for the first time since 1970.

Sophomore Outfielder Kyler Castillo leaves OC as one of the best players in program history.  The Midlothian, TX native hit .460 this season, with seven homeruns, 11 triples, 22 doubles, 53 RBIs, and stole 20 bases.  He was named OC Student-Athlete of the Year, WJCAC 1st Team All-Conference, WJCAC Conference CO-MVP, 1st Team All-Region 5, and signed with the University of New Mexico.

Melendez had an impressive season for the Wranglers as well.  He hit .411 on the season, with 17 homeruns, 16 doubles, six triples, and 70 RBI's.  The freshman from El Paso was named WJCAC Hitter of the Week, WJCAC 1st Team All-Conference, and was selected 1st Team All-Region 5.
