Ancer named to 2018-19 WJCAC Hall of Fame Class

Former Odessa College standout golfer Abraham Ancer was named to the 2019 Western Junior College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame Class this past month.

"It is an honor to receive this award" said Ancer. "I am very thankful to Coach Chavez and Odessa College for giving me the opportunity to grow as a person and as a golfer.

Ancer becomes the sixth Odessa College Wrangler to be inducted into the WJCAC Hall of Fame, he joins; Kathy Whitworth (Women's Golfer) Julian "Coach" Pressely (Baseball Coach), Larry Johnson (Men's Basketball), Paul Chavez (Golf Coach), and Jim Watkins (Rodeo Coach).

Ancer attended Odessa College during the 2009-2010 school year and is one of the most decorated players to come through the Wrangler Golf Program.  While at Odessa he was named 1st Team All-American. In 2010 he received the Jack Nicklaus Award as the NJCAA National Player of the Year and the Phil Mickelson Award that goes to the NJCAA Freshman of the Year.

"I had a great time playing for the OC Golf Team" he said. "We had the opportunity to play and practice on great golf courses, which got my game ready for the next level."

"Abraham was not only one of the most talented players to come through the OC Wrangler Golf program, but was also one of the hardest working players I have ever coached" said Head Golf Coach Paul Chavez.  "He always seemed to rise to the occasion and always had a winning attitude."

He collected Six Individual Tournament Victories, five in a row, and was the 2010 Region V Champion, the Texas State Champion, and the WJCAC Champion.  He was awarded All State, All Region V and WJCAC All-Conference.  Ancer was also crowned Golfstat NJCAA Scoring Champion.

Ancer just completed his second full season on the Professional Golf Tour and finished 2018 ranked 60th in the PGA Tour's Fed Ex Cup Standings.

We are currently searching for a date to be determined for Abraham to come to Odessa to receive this award in person.
