Five Wranglers Selected to TX/NM All-Star Game

The Odessa College Baseball team will be well represented this weekend in Brenham, TX as five sophomores were selected to the Region V West Team.  Pitchers, Noah Bartlett and Marc Luna, Infielders Harry Fullerton and Mason McLenna, and Outfield Kyler Castillo will play this weekend in the Texas/New Mexico Junior College All-Star Game.

These five were selected by the WJCAC Coaches and will team up with players from the other teams in the Conference.  "Congratulations to these guys. It's a reward for what these men accomplished last season." said Head Coach Kurtis Lay.

Mason McLenna, who hit .330 with 13 doubles, three triples, and eight homeruns and drove in 59 runs during the 2018 season is looking forward to the weekend. "I'm excited for the opportunity" said McLenna. "It was what I was working for last year and it's a great chance to be seen by college coaches."

This event is highly attended by College Coaches from Division I, II, & III programs and is a great opportunity for players to be seen and recruited by these schools.

The All-Star Game brings teams from Texas and New Mexico together for two days of games.  There are four teams in attendance as NJCAA Region 5 is broken up into a Region 5 West team and a Region 5 North team.  NJCAA Region 14 is split as well, into Region 14 East and Region 14 South teams.

All five were very appreciative of the selection. "It a great opportunity and very cool to be able to play alongside some of my teammates" said Noah Bartlett.

Four Wranglers will be in the lineup on Saturday including Harry Fullerton who hit 361 last year while driving in 64 runs and stealing 23 bases.  "It is a big opportunity and I'm very excited" said Fullerton.  "It's something that every baseball player wants."

Marc Luna who will take the mound on Saturday credits his success on the mound to being selected.  "I just tried to stay focused, throw strikes and stay down in the zone even when things were going bad" said Luna, who won eight games last year.

"It's a great opportunity for them to be seen by college scouts" said Lay.  "I am looking forward to watching them represent Odessa College."

Region 5 West will take on Region 14 South on Friday at 6:30 and will play Region 14 East on Saturday at 11:00am.  Games will take place at Blinn College in Brenham, TX.
