Next Step is back and wer'e ready to get moving with YOU! Take your Next Step to better health in whichever way YOU choose!
Activity submission options include Step Counts OR Total Exercise Minutes, allowing YOU to choose the type of exercise YOU prefer!

The Challenge
Choose YOUR Challenge | Meet Your Daily Goals | Be Eligible to Win Prizes AND Earn a Challenge T-Shirt!
All Participants who meet their Daily Activity Goal and log their Activity online at least 21 Days of the 28 Day Challenge, earn a 2024 Challenge T-Shirt!
Daily Goal Options
During Registration, participants will be asked to select their Current Activity Level (Sedentary, Moderate, or Active) and the type of Activity Submission preferred to complete the Next Step Challenge (Steps OR Total Exercise Minutes). Based on these selections, each participant will be provided a Daily Goal (Steps OR Minutes) to meet each day of the 28 Day Challenge.
- Daily Step Goals
- Sedentary - 3,500 Steps
- Moderate - 7,500 Steps
- Active - 14,000 Steps
- Daily Minutes Goals
- Sedentary - 30 Minutes
- Moderate - 45 Minutes
- Active - 60 Minutes
How to Earn the Challenge T-Shirt
Participants must meet their Daily Goal and log online in their Next Step Participant Account, their steps OR total minutes at least 21 days of the 28 Day Challenge to earn this year’s Challenge T-Shirt! All entries must be logged by 11:59P of Monday, March 4th.
Weekly Prize Drawings
To be eligible for the WEEKLY PRIZE DRAWINGS, participants must meet their Daily Goal and log their steps OR total minutes at least 5 days out of the 7 for the given week, Sunday thru Saturday. Activity entries must be submitted by each Monday night as the Prize Drawings will be held on Tuesday mornings.

- Week 1 - Monday, February 12th
- Week 2 - Monday, February 19th
- Week 3 - Monday, February 26th
- Week 4 - Monday, March 4th
Daily Activity Submissions
The use of a fitness tracker or steps counter to track steps/minutes is required. Estimated steps/minutes will not be accepted. The maximum steps allowed to log per day is 25,000 and the maximum minutes allowed to log per day is 180 minutes. Please be careful not to over exercise. Once an activity entry has been submitted, that entry CANNOT BE EDITED. Participants are encouraged to wait until the end of the day or the following day to submit their maximum number of steps or minutes. Please remember, estimated and/or anticipated activity are not accepted. One Challenge entry per participant.

Fitness Boot Camps
Are you ready to make a change? Kick start a new fitness plan to keep you active and motivated!
Boot Camp includes a variety of full body workouts using functional fitness exercises, cardio excercises, group work, and more. Each class will be a little bit different. Different workouts, different locations, but always fun and challenging!
Pre and Post fitness assessments included. Must be at least 16 years to register.
Partner Discount is Back! Take advantage of a 50% on the 2nd Registration when 2 Participants register at the same time!
4-Week, 4-Day Boot Camps
Upcoming 2024 Boot Camp Sessions:
- Session 1: January 8th - February 1st
- Exception Week 2: Tuesday - Friday (MLK Jr Day)
- Session 2: February 5th - February 29th
- Session 3: March 18th - April 11th
- Session 4: April 15th - May 9th
- Session 5: May 13th - June 6th
- Exception Week 3: Tuesday - Friday (Memorial Day)
- Session 6: June 10th - July 3rd
- Exception Week 3: Monday - Friday (July 4th the following week)
Class Days: Held Mondays - Thursdays unless otherwise stated

*Participation in a Boot Camp only allows for access to the OC Sports Center specifically for the Boot Camp class and not does include a membership to the OC Sports Center or access to other services and facilities outside of the Boot Camp class time.
2023 Life in Balance Wellness Challenge
Make Yourself a Priority and Add Balance to Your Life!
Challenge Dates | October 23rd - November 19th!
Utilizing the 7 aspects of the Wellness Wheel, Life in Balance aims to help YOU learn how to make yourself a priority in your daily life by participating in a variety of wellness activities that can easily be incorporated into your daily routine.
The Challenge
- Earn Points by completing daily Wellness Activities (8 activities available each day; Each activity worth 1 point)
- Earn at least 35 points each week to be entered into a Weekly Prize Drawing!
- Participants can choose which activities they want to complete each day, if not all of them
- Top 10% Point Earners of all participants will be entered into a Challenge Drawing to win $250 Amazon Gift Card
- Open to OC Students, Faculty, Staff, and Sports Center Members
Daily Wellness Activities
- Emotional and Spiritual Wellness
- Wellness Activity #1 Personal Time
- Spend at least 30 minutes doing something just for you to manage stress and reconnect with yourself
- Examples: Read, go for a walk, meditate, listen to music, exercise, get a massage

- Do at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity

- Eat at least 5 – 9 servings of fruits and vegetables

- Perform a random act of kindness through volunteering, paying it forward, or doing good for others in your community
- Examples: Pay someone a sincere compliment, volunteer in your community, pay for someone’s coffee, help someone in need, donate to a worthy cause

- Wellness Activity #8 Clean Your Environment
- Recycle, organize or actually clean the spaces you interact with such as your home, office, car or other areas in your community
- Examples: Recycle your trash, do your dishes, organize your desk, pick up trash on the sidewalk, join a trash pick-up event, make your bed, file important paperwork, organize your car, declutter your home

How Fitness Monthly Works:
- Attend at least 10 IN-PERSON OC Sports Center Fitness Classes (Group AND/OR Water Classes) per calendar month and you're automatically entered into our monthly prize drawing!
- Attend at least 2 total in-person classes of our featured Monthly Bonus Class(es) as part of your 10 in-person class minimum, and you'll earn a 2nd prize drawing entry for that month!
- Virtual Fitness Class attendance does not count towards 10 in-person class minimum.
How to Receive Attendance Credit:
- Members must sign in on the class sign-in sheet in order to receive credit for attending an OC Sports Center Fitness Class.
- Members that do not sign in will not receive credit towards the 10 in-person class minimum needed to be entered into the monthly prize drawing.
June 2023 Monthly Bonus Class: HIIT
- Attend at least 2 total in-person OC Sports Center HIIT classes during the month of June as part of your 10 in-person class minimum, and you'll receive a 2nd entry into this monthly prize drawing!
